uncleb67 As 2020 winds down, Dan Kanvis brings his long-awaited project to the ears and minds of listeners and followers!!! 15 great tracks from Kanvis and a compact group of like-minded individuals. Great lyrics and top-notch production throughout. Great listen through headphones, but tracks that can bump in a club (when allowed!) “The summer’s gone, we lost it overnight...” In a year where the days were short and the months long, thank you, Dan, for the music! Favorite track: Moon Phase (feat. J. Arthur).

about

Understanding Dead Plants is a portrait of my experiences, from my adolescence in suburban Metro Detroit through my young adult years in Chicago. It details my struggle with identity and the lineage of ideas present in my upbringing, which I began to reckon with in my 20s. The title is a dual reference to growth, exploring care versus neglect, and the vacant automotive plants that remain in Detroit as a stark symbol of automation and white flight to the suburbs. The latter being a precursor to the first chapter of my life.
